Troubleshoot the Talend importer

Import from Talend… is not in the File menu

The plugin is not where Hop looks for it. Check that <hop>/plugins/misc/importers/importer-talend/ exists, that you unzipped into the Hop folder and not into a sub-folder, and that you run Hop 2.19.0 or later: on 2.18 the importer fails with a NoClassDefFoundError.

The import finds no jobs

The importer reads .item files of type talendfile:ProcessType: jobs and joblets. Check that the input folder contains process/, and that the folders are not hidden (hidden files and folders are skipped unless you pass --no-skip-hidden). Routes, context groups on their own, and documentation items are not jobs.

Exit code 3: a job failed to import

The report lists the job under Jobs that failed to import, with the error. Usually the .item file is incomplete (an export without dependencies) or uses a component version the parser does not know. Re-export with dependencies; if it still fails, report it with the error message.

A pipeline does not run

  • Files not found. Paths are carried over as they are, including C:/…. Use variables or change them to paths on the machine that runs Hop.
  • Missing database driver. Put the JDBC driver jar in <hop>/lib/jdbc.
  • Empty password. See Finish connections and passwords.
  • A Dummy with a TODO in its description. That is a placeholder: the report says what it replaces.
  • Context variables are empty. Run with the environment the import wrote; see Import into a Hop project.

The job runs from a workflow, but I opened the pipeline

When a job has triggers or a pre-/post-job, the importer writes <job>_control_flow.hwf or <job>_orchestration.hwf, and the job runs from there. Run the workflow: running the pipeline on its own skips what the triggers did.
